When April Showers
There are certain songs that I only play at certain times of the year unless requested. It’s something I like to do to keep my programs thematic and seasonal. School Days and Teach Me Tonight in September. My Funny Valentine in February, Witchcraft in October etc. So when April comes around, I obviously play April Showers. I like to mention a line from a Spike Jones parody of the song before I play it.
“There is something you might not know about April Showers. When April Showers…”
At this point someone will usually say something about May flowers. But I continue.
“When April Showers…she never closes the curtain.”
One of my favorite veterans, Will, spoke up without missing a beat, “What’s her address?”
He stunned everyone with his quick wit and timing and had the whole group laughing! Then another resident spoke up and by the end of the program, they were scheming a plan to find out where April lived.
It’s now the end of July and almost every week when I see Will, he will say, “Did you get that address for me yet?”
I tell him that April heard about him and has filed a restraining order.
